“As our Mideast policy once again crashes and burns, the president promises a tough response at a Las Vegas fundraiser and the press coordinates attacks on the candidate who says our emperor has no clothes.
If the scenes in Benghazi and Cairo seem eerily familiar, they should. They are similar to the days before our embassy in Tehran was seized in 1979 and held for 444 days, the rotten fruit of a policy that deposed a loyal friend in the name of human rights and instead brought the world a government of, by and for fanatics in Iran bent on the nuclear annihilation of Israel.
Once again we have a president who abandons friends such as Egypt’s Hosni Mubarak who, like the Shah in Iran, at least was on our side, then stands idly by as Islamofascism fills the political void we have created in the naive belief that if we’re nice to the jihadists they’ll stop trying to kill us.
The White House stubbornly refuses to believe that when jihadists shout “Death to America!” they actually mean it.
The orchestrated attacks on sovereign American territory — our consulate in Benghazi and our apologetic embassy in Cairo, timed to coincide with the anniversary of the worst terrorist attack on American soil — only used a film considered insulting to Muslims as a pretext to incite greater mob participation.
They expose the Obama administration’s touted “Arab Spring” as a fraud and a prelude to an American winter if the president gets reelected.
Al-Qaida leader Ayman al-Zawahri had released a video calling on Islamists to avenge the death of a Libyan-born cleric, Yahya al-Libic, killed in a U.S. drone attack.
The same consulate in Benghazi was bombed in June. Yet security wasn’t boosted, and the question is why not? Were we afraid to offend or would it shatter the myth that Athenian democracy was about to bloom in Libya?
Intelligence officials believe the Benghazi attack was planned well in advance. Yet in one of those open mic moments, reporters are caught conspiring to attack Mitt Romney for “jumping the gun” in condemning a U.S. apology for an irrelevant movie, not hounding a fundraising president on why he was asleep at the switch.
Where was Obama’s news conference?
Mohamed Morsi, Egypt’s president and Muslim Brotherhood leader, is a 9/11 “truther” who believes the attack was an inside job by Americans and Israelis and a pretext for launching a war on Islam. Is it any wonder that Egyptian security melted away as mobs approached our embassy and stormed its walls?”
