4 Ways to Ensure a Long Life for My Fishing Gear

Fishing is an excellent way of spending time with friends. It allows you to escape the city’s chaos as it calms your body. You must purchase the proper gear if you are a beginner, including fishing rods, tackles, reels, and other accessories. Applying the listed maintenance tips, you must maintain the angling equipment appropriately to ensure a productive experience.

Store Your Equipment in a Warm Place

Taking care of the fishing gear should be followed when you get home to enhance the long life of the equipment. Find a suitable space for the kit, especially at the end of the season and when you have no plans to use it for a while. Store the equipment in a warm area to protect it against rust as condensation and dampness are minimal. Ensure the chosen space experiences minimal temperature changes and avoid garages, basements, and rooms close to the exterior walls unless well insulated.

Inspect the Equipment Regularly

Checking your fishing gear more often saves you from significant issues when fishing. Tackle is an essential component of fishing gear but is subjected to damage, including bites, rocks, and other things above and underwater. Ensure you check your tackle after each fishing trip and repair it to prepare it for the next time. Assess the lure veering to ensure it is not bent and use pliers to return it into shape or visit a local tackle and bait store to have it repaired.

Keep Your Rods in Good Shape

The rod, though fragile, is the most crucial equipment in your fishing arsenal. Clean and dry your rods promptly and store them in unique Fishitch rod holders. You can also lay them down instead of hanging them against the wall to ensure they do not bend. Be careful when casting your fishing rod from the boat by avoiding hitting or banging it when fishing from shore. Wax the joints of your fishing rods to ensure they have minimal friction, and wash the rod grips with water and soap.

Dry Your Equipment Thoroughly

Most people often forget to dry their fishing equipment after cleaning it. Water is the leading cause of rust on metals which damages fishing gear. Ensure you dry the equipment by rubbing it with a towel, paper, or a piece of cloth, so it does not become susceptible to rust. Check again if the equipment is thoroughly dry before storing it.

Taking care of your fishing gear is essential to ensure long-term service. You will save on costly purchases when you have better-performing gear.
